The party is fielding candidates in every one of the 76 wards - something which has not been done for many years. Labour’s candidates are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds, from university graduates, lorry drivers and teachers to former police officers, service personnel and bankers.
Patrick Canavan, secretary of Labour’s campaign forum said: “Our area faces some really big challenges over the next four years, such as the lack of affordable housing, the funding crisis in social care and the attack on services such as public toilets, youth clubs and community policing. Labour’s manifesto addresses all of those issues and so much more.”
